Randal Tian is a composer for film and games based in North Carolina, currently pursuing a Master of Music in Composition for Film and Visual Media at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts (UNCSA). His work combines orchestral writing with hybrid and experimental textures. His recent projects include music for short films, trailers, podcasts, and games.
Randal began studying violin and voice at the age of four, taking part in performances and competitions from an early age and receiving awards in national competitions. He later attended Berklee College of Music, where he studied Contemporary Writing & Production and earned his Bachelor of Music in 2023. At Berklee, his work ranged from original orchestral and chamber music to large-ensemble and vocal arrangements, as well as songwriting and production. After Berklee, Randal worked in Beijing on music and sound post-production for web series and digital media, with work including music editing, temp scoring, theme music, accompaniment arrangements, and the integration of dialogue, music, and sound effects. He later entered UNCSA, bringing these experiences in writing, production, and post-production into a more focused study of scoring for film and games.
His current work continues to explore orchestral writing and interactive music, while bringing his understanding of live instruments into his scores for film and games.
